Harry Potter author JK Rowling has been honoured with the 2016 PEN/Allen Foundation Literary Service Award.

Rowling was given the award for her work which 'opposes repression in any form' and 'champions the best of humanity'. PEN America works to ensure that people everywhere 'have the freedom to create literature, to convey information and ideas, to express their views, and to make it possible for everyone to access the views, ideas, and literatures of others'.
